Looking for quality white rocking chairs? White rocking chairs come in a wide variety of styles. There are white wicker rocking chairs, nursery rocking chairs, outdoor rocking chairs, and kids rocking chairs. Each has its own purpose and style based on its individual use. Here we discuss the types of white rocking chairs.
Nursery Rocking Chairs
Nursery rocking chairs come in the traditional rocker style and the newer glider style.
- Traditional Rocking Chair – Personally, I like the traditional rocker style better as I have never had problems with it. They rock on an axis based on the curve of the bottom. They tend to be more rigid and will require more cushion than the gliders but they will last a lot longer.
- Glider Rocking Chair – However, the glider is quickly becoming more popular as it is easier to rock and is more comfortable. The only drawback to the glider is the gliding mechanism. Unlike traditional rockers where the rocking is based on the shape of the wood, gliders rock are mechanical and all mechanical things break eventually.
White Wicker Rocking Chairs
- Style Option – Wicker rocking chairs also come in a variety of styles. Some have the tall back for the laid back rocking comfort like rocking a baby. Others have the wide seat and arms to allow for more cushion and general sitting activities.
- Weather Proofing – Many people choose the white wicker rocking chairs for their durability. Wicker can stand up well to UV from the sun and rain. It is also surprisingly affordable. Still, you will want to check the rocking chair before you buy it as not all wicker undergoes waterproofing.
Outdoor Rocking Chairs
Wicker rocking chairs are the most popular outdoor rocking chair. However, many times of wood can undergo waterproof treatment. Additionally, you have the choice of iron.
While iron chairs are very durable, you do want to be careful with sun exposure. These can become very hot during the summer months if exposed to direct sunlight. Therefore, if you do have an iron rocking chair outside, be sure to cover it with a cushion to prevent accidental burning.
Kids Rocking Chairs
- Toy Rocking Chairs – Toy rocking chairs look like regular rocking chairs for kids. However, they are much cheaper and they do not last as long. When looking for kids rocking chairs as furniture, be wary of cheap as it is often just a toy for short-term use.
- Animal Rocking Chairs – The horse rocker is the most famous of the animal rocking chairs. However, you can get animal rockers in a variety of animals and styles.
- Wicker Rocking Chairs – I would not recommend wicker chairs for small children. Wicker can break off and be a choking hazard for kids under three. However, for older kids you could not ask for a better kids rocking chair.
- Wood Rocking Chairs – Classic wood rocking chairs often come with cushions. If not, look into buying some cushions to make them more comfortable. It will be worth it as wood rocking chairs can last generations.
